Fuji Xerox Australia (FXA), 8 Khartoum Rd Macquarie Park NSW
New office fitout National Headquarters(8000sqm)
The relocation of the National Headquarters in Sydney to a new purpose built site provided an opportunity for FXA to review its operation and explore new ways of working.
Built zones are removed from the perimeter and centralized to provide natural daylight access across the floor to all areas. The central café zone in the middle of each floor is linked at Khartoum Rd through a void over three levels with an internal stair. This provided opportunity for access to teams across floors vertically as well as creating a central social hub. The built zone comprising both meeting and semi collaboration areas provides the separation the open plan work environment. Each floor in addition has perimeter Hub spaces catering for staff informal meetings and quiet areas. Extensive recycling of materials including furniture, timber screening, carpet and light fittings from the corporation’s previous fitout provided an environmental and cost saving benefit to the company. Colour and texture have been selected to identify neighbourhoods and assist with way finding across the four floors.
The executive level on the top floor, houses the boardroom and front of house meeting and training rooms with a view down through the void to a vibrant workplace below.
Fuji Xerox Sydney, Epicenter
The Fuji Xerox Sydney epicenter is a best-of-breed amalgamation of digital print technologies and services, state-of-the-art enablers, communication and printing industry experts and dynamic architectural and interactive interior concepts. The centre facilitates file and application testing, application development, business development and education initiatives, training programs and provides a forum for Fuji Xerox's customers, partners and industry associations to collaborate in this space with their own customers and business associates.
Dedicated, solution-based zones have been created within the epicenter to provide visitors with different stages of guidance, which will assist them to review and evaluate new business opportunities for development and growth. The facility has enabled the company to emulate true client environments as well as to successfully test and refine proposed solutions for its customers. The epicenter has taken this concept to a new level and is a long-term strategic investment that re-enforces Fuji Xerox's commitment to the graphic arts and printing industries.

New Office Fitout (1013sq.m)
The pilot test for the new work environment with shared communal zones, identifiable neighborhoods and open plan work areas. Reference to the company’s Green policy are reflected in the use of recycled palettes in furniture and feature graphic walls in the Hub. Core initiatives included visible lines to natural light and the introduction of planting in the workplace to enhance health and wellbeing. The creation of a transparent environment improved communication, staff efficiency and flow for cross-functional teams.

Office refurbishment (4500 sqm)
This project implemented a new activity based working (ABW) model tailored to FXA across all levels within the organization. The spatial efficiency gained by consolidating individual work areas and storage provided alternative work areas such as Hub spaces, informal meeting areas, collaboration / project spaces and meeting rooms.
The work model adopted allowed that for each workstation place another alternative seat in the office was available thereby increasing the flexible work areas twofold.
The use of personal storage lockers facilitated the non-allocated desk arrangement for relevant staff.
Outcomes have been higher productivity levels, increased staff collaboration and wellbeing, more open and transparent work environment.
This work style was directly supported by the proximity of open plan collaboration areas, café zones and meeting and quiet spaces.
The floor plan is designed to provide necessary access within close proximity to senior staff to closed meeting a room or quiet space.
Fuji Xerox Australia, Canberra new office 6 National Circuit Barton ACT
New office fitout and showroom (800sqm)
Combining both a showroom facility and office space on the same premises provided the opportunity to create flexible overlapping zones accessible to both user groups. A large theatre like “egg” was used to enclose both a waiting and staff breakout area along with the office solutions presentation space. This naturally divided the floor in half creating a showroom and open plan officeeither side. The result was an adaptable, flexible environment that could function for the everyday office, Client presentations as well as large product launches. The neutral black and white palette created a new design language for this regional office creating a smart, stylish new workspace.

Ground floor showroom / reception 2 (521.2 sq.m)
Level 1 new office fitout (516 sq. m)
This site called for a design solution that provided a showroom at ground floor with an open plan office on the floor above.
The showroom layout was a pilot design where presentation space equaled “lab like” equipment areas. The airport lounge like seating, large presentation screens and client zones provide an elegant front of house.
The narrow existing stair to the office floor above was embellished with powerful graphics to assist way finding.
The work environment above is light, bright and airy with varied casual work zones supporting the open plan workspace. Abundance of daylight is maximized to staff areas with planting and a rich textured finishes palette with built zones removed from the perimeter.
DCC HUB 85 Buckhurst St Melbourne
New office fitout and print warehouse (1100 sq.m)
The brief was to provide a front office with open plan work area for staff, including meeting rooms, collaboration zones, staff breakout and a communal kitchen to service the digital print warehouse.
The Client facing reception is simple and provides a glimpse into the world of the production beyond.
The main viewing window into the lab was visible from the reception entry point providing Clients a glimpse into the world of production to create their documents.
Bold colours were used to create a bright communal environment in a largely internalized workspace with little daylight access due to the constraints of the site. Workspace and staff breakout were located at the perimeter permitting daylight access to lab staff off duty.
DCWC Pitt St Sydney
New Fitout (500 sq. m)
The project management group called for a new office fitout to house their fast growing business. A client facing reception and front of house overlaps with the staff breakout zone buffeting the open plan work areas beyond. A simple palette of natural materials was used to provide a warm and elegant environment. Flexible, communal staff areas provide spill over space for Client functions and larger staff gatherings.

Shortlisted Entry 2007 Interior Design Awards: Colour in Commercial Interior Design
The aim was to create a new office fit out reflecting Australia’s leading supplier of quality educational products to schools and retailers within budget of building owner contribution to lease.
The use of bright, bold colour to engage and communicate, greeting the visitor to the space, giving a surreal feel, evoking the idea of a ‘world through a child’s eye’.
This isnot your typical office space, Visitors will instantly recognize this fun and playful approach highlighting Modern Star’s philosophy to building knowledge and encouraging learning.
Reader’s Digest Australia, Ultimo
New office fit-out (3,500 sq. m)
The Client brief was to improve work practices and seek alternative work solutions to assist in a new cultural vision for Readers Digest with the Company re structure.
Through extensive staff consultation, workplace evaluation studies, briefing and workshops a brief was established informing the concept design. Urban design principles of village and community derived a town square and street model used for definition of communal and private work areas.
As a result the Historic warehouse architecture was embraced in the choice of finishes and “rawness” of the new fit-out, creating a dynamic work environment with improved productivity, communication and staff morale.
Sydney Ferries
New fit-out Sydney (1,095 sq. m)
The new office space provided opportunityto reflect the corporation’s vision, while allowing its operations to be consolidated. The fit-out processenabled the Client to further improve commercial activities while also contributing to a staff culture in which people felt valued & were proud to work.
The consultation process through workshop and office interviews developed the design brief with in depth workplace evaluation and storage auditing. Gaining a clear understanding of “front and back of house” formal and informal areas was instrumental to a successful new open-plan office environment.
The result is an open-plan office environment, which successfully provides the opportunity for operations to be streamlined by more efficient space utilization, within tight program and on budget.
Australasian Medical Publishing, Pyrmont
New fit-out (1100 sq. m)
The brief from our Client was to improve work practices, communication and the work environment for staff and visitors. The Client was keen to implement a cultural workplace change to attract a younger staff base.
The process involved design briefing and workplace study, identifying strengths and weaknesses in established work practices, developing an open plan work environment encompassing both team and individual workstyles.
The result was a library style carrel concept allowing a successful change from staff working in an enclosed office space to an open plan environment. The large shared informal breakout space and open medical library improved departmental interaction.
Ark Finance Group, Walsh Bay
New fit-out (500 sq. m)
The brief required meeting areas that would permit all scales of gatherings from 2-4 people to presentations for 200 for launches of new ventures were key to the space planning. Highly flexible spaces were developed allowing workgroups to be set apart to reflect business groups whilst sharing the same space.
The result was the integration of warehouse architecture with planning solutions has successfully delineated private and public spaces. Alternative meeting spaces included external terraces, outdoor covered decks, informal open plan areas with flexible configurations. The new office space takes advantage of the warehouse architecture and harbourside location of the new studios.
Petersham House
Site area 563.1sqm,
Alterations & additions to existing residence
The client brief called for a refurbishment to the existing Victorian Italianate dwelling – “Carinya”, into a contemporary family home. A new secondary dwelling was built over the existing garage at the rear of the property. The home is located in the Petersham north heritage conservation area. The works replanned the bedroom area on L1 to create a master suite and parent retreat with study overlooking the new pool and garden to the rear along with new bathrooms. A new kitchen, laundry, powder room and family areas on the ground floor were designed into the existing footprint of the property. The main architectural element introduced is the double height pergola and bay window addition to the rear of the house on the upper level. This provides solar and rain protection to an outdoor terrace overlooking the pool and a dialogue between the rear studio over the garage and house.
Robust material selection sympathetic to the existing historic dwelling assisted in creating a warm and practical family home.
Bilgola House
Site area 900sqm,
Alterations & additions residence
Alterations and additions to existing Pettit and Sevitt dwelling built in the 1960’s into a modern family home including 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, laundry and new kitchen.
The process included sensitive additions and alterations in keeping with the style of the existing dwelling. Extensive new outdoor terraces and decks were added maximizing access to the Pittwater views. Use of classic finishes including limestone tile flooring, marble splashbacks, stainless steel benchtops, white American oak wide floorboards and American walnut veneer joinery. Extensive landscaping was carried out to existing cliff top garden integrating the views into each room of the dwelling.
Balmain House A
Site area 282sqm, Dwelling area 200sqm
Alterations & additions to existing cottage
The aim was to build an inner city sanctum transforming an existing weatherboard worker’s cottage into a twenty first century home in a conservation area.
Through extensive client briefing, sketch design, authority planning reviews and negotiation; a contemporary inner city oasis was created with adaptable living configurations providing a spacious and airy 4 bedroom family home.
Environmental initiatives included: use of recycled flooring internally, rainwater tanks, solar hot water heating, Low E glazing, on site detention and absorption.
Jamberoo House Hill of Peace
Site area 5 acres, Building area 180 sqm
New dwelling
Located in the NSW Southern Highlands following years of weekends and holidays in temporary accommodation the client wanted to build a home for her retirement. With a building site in mind, capturing prevailing coastal breezes and the 360-degree view the design process began leading to a flexible contemporary barn like structure. The heritage valley and surrounding sheds informed the external architecture of the building giving way to a comfortable and modern interior with flexible private and public spaces built around a double height mezzanine.The home is cozy for one and can accommodate family when visiting with sleep out areas in the attic areas.
