The client brief called for a new large family residence that would accommodate children of differing ages and provide a private parent retreat. The site’s triangulated shape with little street frontage created interesting constraints; the pavilion concept evolved with private sleeping areas separated by a glazed entry lobby leading into the double height living pavilion housing the parent’s retreat at the upper level. A central courtyard with a swimming pool is the inner focus of the dwelling with decks and lawns spilling off the house into the garden area. The front courtyard is a more formal entry area whilst the rear garden provides a more casual landscaped environment for children to play.
